Rethinking

Lately, I’ve been seriously thinking about adopting our current foster baby. No, she’s not adoptable, but my feeling is that she will be at some point… Another story…. I talked to my social worker yesterday. We are proceeding forward to finish up what paperwork we need to, but she made a statement that I cannot shake… “DHS may question your ages..” Found out the cut off age is 45, and while I am under, Phil is not at 46. She did mention we might be able to work around that though. I thought it was funny that we finally reached the age of being too old for something. It did stop me on my tracks to reconsider what I want to do. Am I just pursuing this for selfish reasons, easing my pain and heartache when she leaves us? Are we really the best family for her? We’ve had her since she was 6-weeks old, she’s bonded with us as we have with her. While we have family who love her, she will be raised with 2-grandsons.. Plus future grandchildren. Will that suffice as “siblings” so-to-speak? Or will she be better off with young parents who may provide her with full time siblings and family? I haven’t figured it out yet, but I am giving it to God.

I just found an app for this for my phone. Maybe I’ll be a better blogger. Maybe not. I just don’t like to write especially about myself.

We have been full-time foster parents for 6 months now. We are on our 5th child. While it’s been a little rough finding our niche, I think we have with infants. Our first infant, fourth child left after a week. I was devastated. I had fallen in love with her the first I sat eyes on her. I knew then that babies were for us. We have had our new baby about a week and a half now. I now know that any day she could be moved, I will be prepared.

Today, I find myself catapulting into the world of foster care. While we have been preparing for this over the last few months, I didn’t expect it to happen today. I’m mixed with many emotions, sadness that little ones have to be taken from their parents, sadness that parents don’t have it together enough to parent and nurture their kids, a little anger over that as well, humbleness that we are actually a foster family, and are moving forward on this mission, excited to meet these little ones, fearful as this is our first time going at it this way…we have done respite in the past. We still have so much to do to prepare for little ones as our littlest one is now 13.

I pray that we will be everything we can be to anyone who enters our home for nurturing and love.

As I type, my oldest daughter is in labor and hopefully, will be delivering my first grandchild, a boy, Kayden Nicholas at some point today!! Phil and I are beside ourselves with excitement!!

I have one child that while I love dearly, frustrates me to no end! She is always pushing the limits, wants to be like everyone else, wants everyone else to know she is like everyone else, and just goes against the grain of our family nature. My goal this week with her is to maintain my composure when I have to deal with her and just show the love and forgiveness that Jesus has shown me. I know I can do it, I just have to focus on doing it and lean on God for the strength to be slow to speak and slow to get angry. I can do it!

Frustrating!

I am so frustrated that I have no control over a situation!!! I regret ever getting involved in a project that was meant to help…..other people wouldn’t let us do our job and I’ve now quit….and now, those people are playing coy and telling others that the demise of the project is our fault!! Yes, I feel guilty for quitting it midstream, but it just isn’t fair to bring the stress into my home and family when all we are trying to do is good for others! I am leaning heavily on God and hoping those “hearing” will give us the benefit of the doubt and not just believe the things they hear!! I cannot believe that so-called Christians act the way they do! I will never understand.

I am getting ready to do something I have never done before…go away for the weekend without any family members, to meet some friends! I am so excited, yet proud of myself that I am doing this! Phil thinks I stick to home way to much and I think he is actually glad I am getting away! It is just for a short time, but I know it will be a time that I end up cherishing for years to come!
